Frequently Asked Questions
Is this access door fire-rated?
No it is not. In most applications this type of access panel is installed in a gypsum board layer that does not contribute to the rating of the assembly. Please confirm that in your case a rated access door is required.
What is the largest size the XL goes to?
The BAUCO® XL can go as large as 22 square feet per door leaf. For bigger openings we will then add another door leaf for more access.
What thickness of gypsum board can the XL be?
With the front-mounted frame, the integrated finishing bead determines where the door is seated on the drywall boarding of the wall. The thickness of the gypsum board does not matter. The installer will have to use fasteners that are long enough to extend through the bead and any boarding into the stud surrounding the rough opening.
Can the BAUCO® XL be installed in either walls or ceilings?
Yes, the BAUCO® XL is primarily designed for large openings in walls. It can be used in ceilings, but in many cases the BAUCO® plus II model is better suited for ceilings.
Can BAUCO® XL access panels be covered with different finishes and treatments?
Yes, any treatments that you would normally apply to a wall made of gypsum board. Normally that is finishing compound and paint. But the BAUCO® XL can receive treatments of tile, wall coverings, tongue and groove wood, fabrics, stucco plaster, etc. For the hinge to function and the door leaf to remain removable from the frame, the cladding can be no thicker than 1”.
