1.04 Submittals
- General: In accordance with conditions of Division 1 specifications.
- Shop drawings.
- Manufacturer’s literature and data.
1.05 Quality Assurance
- Provide all access panels for the project by the same source and the same manufacturer.
- Obtain design professional’s approval of sizes that may vary slightly from those indicated when they are not in accordance to manufacturer’s standards.
1.06 Coordination
The paragraphs below are optional but help to determine specific responsibility for access panels.
- Determine specific locations and sizes for access panels needed to gain access to concealed equipment and indicate on schedule specified under “submittals” article.
- Access panels to gain access to equipment specified in Division 15 or 16 and where panels are not shown on drawings are to be provided by applicable subcontractor and in compliance with requirements listed in this section.
1.07 Delivery, Storage, and Handling
- Package and ship in accordance to manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Store in compliance to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Store in dry area out of direct sunlight.

2.02 Materials
Extruded Aluminum Alloy 6063-T6. Standard (1/2") or Type X (5/8") proprietary gypsum board inlay (12,5 mm for European market). Fiberglass re-enforced nylon. Zinc-plated screws, stainless steel springs. Nylon retaining hooks and installation handles. Rubber gasket.
2.03 Access Panels
- Non rated flush access doors, baucoplus series (finish similar to recessed panels)
- Door: Fabricate using extruded aluminum frame with gypsum board inlay and structural nylon corner elements. The door is to be taped and finished consistent with the surrounding surface.
- Frame: Recessed aluminum frame provides edge similar to drywall bead against which wall or ceiling surface can be finished. Specify model
- BP58- for 5/8 board
- BP12- for ˝ board,
- BP125 - for 12.5 mm board (Europe, South America).
- Hinge: Patented, concealed, two-point pin hinge, non-corroding. Allows door to open 120 degrees. Door can be removed.
- Latching/Locking devices: Screwdriver cam latch - standard.
OPTIONS:
- Key operated cylinder lock with two (2) keys per lock, keyed alike.
- Tamper-resistive torx head cam latch.
- Concealed touch latch.
- Finish: Aluminum frames, gypsum board, nylon and aluminum cam latch. To receive the same finish and paint as the surrounding surface.
2.04 Fabrication
- Manufacture each access panel assembly as an integral unit ready for installation.
- Recessed panel: Form face of panel to provide specified recess for application of finish material. Reinforce door as required to prevent sagging.
- Furnish number of latches required to hold door in flush smooth pane when closed.
PART 3: EXECUTION
3.01 Examination
- Verify conditions are ideal for suitable installation.
3.02 Preparation
- Advise installers of work relating to access panel installation including rough opening dimensions, locations of supports, and anchoring methods. Coordinate delivery with other work to avoid delay.
3.03 Installation
- Follow manufacturer’s instructions for installing access panels.
- Set frames to proper alignment with the wall or ceiling.
- Position access panels for proper access to concealed equipment requiring access.
3.04 Adjust and Clean
- Adjust panel after installation for proper operation. Remove drywall mud and/or dust from hinge and rabbet.
- Remove and replace panels or frames that are warped, bowed, or damaged.
